Welcome to Debbi Czapla's First Grade Class!
Dear Parents,
I cannot believe this will be our last month of school. This year has gone by quickly. But, as always, we still have many things to accomplish and review.
In math we are making models of a farm and applying the concepts taught this year. This unit involves place value, money, area, perimeter, mapping and computation. The children will be working in groups to start their farm. I am so excited! The children will be learning about farm animals, how much feed each animal needs, how much space each animal needs and the groups will also have to buy farm equipment. We will begin on Tuesday, May 1st.
We are in our final reader and have been reviewing skills. We are also working on comparing and contrasting writing. In LA we are learning about adjectives, subjects and predicates and will end with using I and me correctly in a sentence.
Our social studies unit is on the planet Earth and how best to take care of it. We will also discuss different forms of land and water. If time permits, we will finish with more map skills.
We are still working on the properties of matter. When this chapter is finished, we will begin discussing plants.
In religion we are discussing the Commandments paying great attention to the 2 Greatest Commandments. We also have been discussing what makes us Christians and how, as Christians, we should live our lives. We will also discuss how they as 7 and 8 year olds can help others learn about God and “set our world on fire with His love.”
As the year draws to a close, there are many special days to remember. Please make sure to read the LINK and pay attention to the list of special days and activities.
Have a magnificent month and to all the moms, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Mrs. Czapla
